Here's a portrait I made today. It's called 'Sad Girl' as you can see...
This portrait is made on wood (19.7 x 23.6 inch.) using colored beeswax, cut out stencil and a heating device (an ordinary iron).
'Sad Girl' is for sale for the best bidder.

Sold!
It's been quite some time I've been writing on this blog. It's been almost a year.
Well, please forgive me, I was too busy with my encaustic art and Wordpress instead. Now I'm back today because of someone commenting on my post on Wordpress. As I looked her up I noticed her using 'Blogger' like I use to do. So in result I thought I would write another post.
This post is about a sale I made. It was not a big sale, but it was a sale anyway. I sold two postcards I made using encaustics and Photoshop. It's a great card if I can say so myself. And, you can buy one or two or even more too! Wouldn't that be great to surprise a friend with such a great card???
Just take a look and judge for yourself.
Here's a link (click on the image below) you can use to see more of it and more of my other artworks.
Enjoy!

Encaustic Art Your House...
It's been quite some time I've been writing on this blog. This was because of the weather. Yes, we had some weeks of summer. Most of the time the weather has been like autumn, but then it all changed into sun!
Now our normal lives have begun again and I'm on the computer more and more.
I wanted to show you a movie I've made. Encaustic Art Your House is the title. Here you can see some of the art I'm making. Not during the summer, because it's too hot to handle an iron. When autumn sets in the iron will start doing its job again...
Encaustic Art Your House
Enjoy watching my video and I hope you will comment on it... I really could use some feedback.

Why doesn't anyone read my blog??? Don't you want to know how a Dutch woman lives???
Okay, I must admit, it isn't the most interesting thing on earth, but I wish someone would read and comment my blog. Do I sound desperate? Yes, I do!
Did I tell you I make encaustic art? No, I didn't, not yet. Well... I make encaustic art. You can see my work on my own site www.ericakanters.nl. Maybe you want to take a look? When you take a look at my site don't get afraid of the Dutch words and simply go to www.ericakanters.nl/bijenwastekeningen and see some of my work. Bijenwastekeningen is the Dutch word for Encaustic Art.
Encaustic art is made by heating coloured beeswax applied to special paper by using an iron. This is the short definition. Of course you can look it up at the internet, so why should I bother when you can find it yourself. Not that I don't want to explain it to you, but it's difficult to put into English words for me. Anyhow... to tell something more about the way I work...
Sometimes I make drawings on request. When I do so, I also make pictures of part of the drawing and tell them what I see in those. Most of the time I tell them about them. People can't believe I can see those things in the drawing, but it's true. The first drawing I made for a man I only knew through internet by his nickname. I didn't know if he was married or anything of his personal life. What I told him made him wonder how I knew those things... I was amazed as well, because I didn't know I was talking about his personal life. The only thing I thought I did was telling a story about my drawing (or part of it, anyway)...
But, most of the time I just start making drawings without thinking about anything. I have to have a clear head and that's very difficult I can tell... Try not to think about anything and you start thinking about something. Strange how the brain works. So I start ironing (with beeswax of course...). The first drawing I make not with a clear head so immediately after the first one I make another one. This is the one with a clear head. I have to keep practising clearing my head. One day my all my first drawings will be made clear, not thinking at all, just draw or should I say iron... ;)
This is the last piece I made...

My break
After writing my blog and updating my website I started again with my encaustic art. Just when I got started Frank, my sweet husband, came home for lunch. Not so good a timing, but it was nice of him to come home during his break. When we were sitting down together, talking, the doorbell rang. It was a package for Frank and I. I expected another parcel, but this was an even better one. A gift from a friend who's in the army working in Kunduz. In two months she'll be back home in Holland, but for now she had sent us a gift. A scarf for me and one for Frank. We never expected to get a gift all the way from Kunduz! How sweet is that!?
After the two surprises, first Frank and then the gift, I went back to my encaustic art to finish my painting. It really looks great. First I started with another painting which wasn't to my liking so I started another one. And then I treated myself to a break, writing... After this writing I can play a game on Facebook, I allow my self to do so. I can be very nice to myself from time to time... So for now I will say: 'See you later!' Although I can't see you at all (if even anyone reads this blog...)
